Proxim Tsunami(TM) and ORiNOCO(R) Products Enable "Invisible"
Infrastructure
San Jose, CA -- Proxim Wireless Corporation, a global
pioneer of end-to-end solutions in Wi-Fi mesh, WiMAX, WLAN, and wireless
backhaul and wholly owned subsidiary of Terabeam, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRBM),
today announced that service provider Chaparral CableVision has deployed
a wireless mesh network on a military base located in the U.S.
Southwest, to provide Wi-Fi access to more than 800 base residents
located over three square miles. Assisting in the mesh network design
and consultation was Moonblink Communications, a value added distributor
of wireless networking systems and Proxim Platinum Partner. The
companies chose the Proxim Wireless mesh solution because of the
customer requirement to build an "invisible" infrastructure -- that is,
no cabling or wiring. |

In a mesh network, nodes
provide Wi-Fi access to end users while also connecting to each other to
share bandwidth, identify fastest routes around the network, and enable
complete redundancy. Chaparral and Moonblink designed and delivered the
mesh network powered by Proxim's ORiNOCO® AP-4000 mesh access points
connecting to Proxim's Tsunami™ MP.11 outdoor point-to-multipoint
products for backhaul. The companies selected the AP-4000 because of its
support for roaming, quality of service (QoS) to support voice over IP (VoIP),
its dual-radio architecture, and high output power. The MP.11 was the
product of choice for backhaul because it can support converged video,
voice, and data in both fixed and mobile applications. Equally important
in the selection process was the breadth of Proxim's product portfolio,
enabling Chaparral and Moonblink to select complementary access and
backhaul products from a single vendor.
