Emerging Network Technology Company Elects Dr. Sachio Semmoto to Advisory Board and Industry Veterans Ben Scott, K-P Wilska to Board of Directors

Richardson, TX -- Mavenir Systems, an emerging technology company developing a solution that transcends barriers dividing core networks, announced today the appointment of Pardeep Kohli, former president and chief executive officer of Spatial Wireless, as President and CEO. Company officials also announced industry pioneer Dr. Sachio Semmoto of eAccess Ltd. and eMobile Ltd. is appointed to its advisory board, and the election of industry executive veterans Ben Scott, with a strong mobile operator executive background, and K-P Wilska, with a strong executive track record at Nokia, to its board of directors.

A veteran of the wireless industry, Kohli brings 18 years of experience to Mavenir Systems. Kohli co-founded Spatial Wireless and served as president and CEO, leading the company to broad success in the U.S. and its subsequent acquisition by Alcatel. As senior vice president of Alcatel’s Mobile NGN business, Kohli expanded the Spatial Wireless product into the global marketplace. Previously, he served in multiple positions at NEC America, DSC, Alcatel and PacBell. A frequent industry speaker, Kohli holds several patents on the design and deployment of advanced telecommunication services.

“We have strengthened Mavenir Systems with the addition of Pardeep Kohli, who gives the company leadership and experience of successfully introducing new technologies to global markets,” said Pulin Patel, chief technology officer of Mavenir Systems. “Mr. Kohli and our team share the common thread of success with building companies, developing smart products and initiating visionary change. Our boards of directors and advisors will benefit from the diverse experiences and vast knowledge of industry leaders Ben Scott and K-P Wilska and the respected voice of Dr. Semmoto as a trusted, experienced advisor.”

“Mavenir’s solution will allow network service providers to utilize existing and next-generation assets for a seamless deployment of multimedia services across mobile and fixed domains,” said Patel. “The Mavenir solution will offer both consumers and enterprises to control their services, choosing when, where and on what device they receive voice, video and communication services with seamless continuity and optimum network delivery.” Mavenir announced last July it had raised $13.1 million for global company expansion and its product launch.

New Advisory Board Member Dr. Sachio Semmoto founded eAccess Ltd in 1999 as Japan’s first true entrepreneurial and global IP/telecom start-up. eAccess provides high-speed broadband telecommunication services using xDSL technology, which is now a leading broadband IP operator in Japan. Previously, Dr. Semmoto spent 30 years in senior management positions with companies that included Nippon Telephone & Telegraph (NTT), Kyocera, and DDI Corporation (KDDI), which he co-founded. He has taught at Keio University, Carnegie Mellon University and University of California at Berkeley, was a Visiting Research Fellow at Stanford University and has lectured many of the world’s leading academic institutions and universities. Dr. Semmoto serves on the boards of Network Appliance Inc. and SmarTone Telecommunications Holdings Ltd. in Hong Kong. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., and a trustee of the Tokyo Foundation and the Japan Academic Society for Ventures and Entrepreneurs, JASVE.

New Mavenir Board Member Ben Scott joined Austin Ventures in 2002 as a venture partner after serving as a partner in Quadrant Management, where he was involved in early-stage investment for the telecom industry. He is the former chairman and CEO for IXC Communications and former president and CEO of PrimeCo Personal Communications. Previously, he held executive positions with Bell Atlantic, AT&T and AT&T Canada.

New Mavenir Board Member K-P Wilska is a venture partner with Austin Ventures following a 30-plus year career with Nokia. He served as president of Nokia, Incorporated until his retirement in 2005. He held numerous marketing and executive positions with Nokia and other companies, including Vertu Ltd, Nokia Mobile Phones, Nokia Cellular Systems, Nokia Telecommunications, Kinex Corporation and Mobira Oy. Wilska also serves on the board of directors for Brightpoint and Agere, the advisory board for Bitfone and is chairman of the advisory board for Sipera Systems.
