WiMAX World Asia is part
of the global series of WiMAX World events produced by Trendsmedia. Now
in our fourth year, WiMAX World events are the world’s largest forums
for WiMAX and wireless/mobile broadband strategies and where the entire
ecosystem meets to chart its future direction. WiMAX World Europe takes
place in Vienna, Austria on May 29-31, 2007. WiMAX World USA, the
largest WiMAX global event with over 7,000 attendees and 200 exhibitors,
will be held Sept. 25-27, 2007 in Chicago USA. The event website is
www.wimaxworld.com.
The 3-day WiMAX World Asia conference and 2-day expo drew senior level
delegates from around the region and provided key insights from
operators and service providers, analysts, and the world’s leading WiMAX
and wireless broadband equipment and solution providers. The conference
program provided WiMAX operator and service provider experiences with
early fixed and mobile WiMAX deployments, as well as the future market
adoption likelihood for WiMAX and other leading wireless broadband
solutions in China and Asia Pacific. Conference highlights included
visionary general session presentations from Nortel, Nokia Siemens,
Samsung, WiMAX Forum, Yankee Group Research, Analysys International,
China Unicomm, KDDI, INTEL, Qualcomm, Telecom Italia, Buzz Broadband,
VSNL and China’s MII.
According to conference co-chair, Berge Ayvazian, Chief Strategy
Officer, Yankee Group, "The highly anticipated WiMAX technology is now a
reality, with already over 200 service providers around the world
starting to build networks based on fully standard WiMAX and mobile
WiMAX equipment. WiMAX is creating a new competitive force in mature
telecoms markets and is accelerating broadband availability in
underserved areas. We were pleased to have hosted over 20 leading
operators and service providers from throughout Asia at this event."
A key highlight of the event was the participation by Dr. Chen Haofei,
Secretary-general of the TD-SCDMA Forum, who was a keynote speaker. Dr.
Haofei said that WiMAX will go parallel with TD-SCDMA at the initial
stage of its market expansion. For TD-SCDMA, WiMAX can be regarded as a
"new feature instead of a new network" according to Dr. Haofei. The two
will complement each other and TD-SCDMA will leverage WiMAX features.
Dr. Haofei also stated, “In the medium term WiMAX/WiFi and TD-SCDMA
should coexist by being supplementary to each other. While in the long
term WiMAX can gradually be competitive as TD-SCDMA becomes more mature,
so to have a bright future in China.” Dr. Haofei also enjoyed the lunch
discussion with WiMAX industry leaders and learned that while TD-SCDMA
is focused on delivering 3G features to mobile operators, WiMAX is
focused on delivering broadband services to many underserved regions of
China, consistent with government policy.
The event expo hall provided delegates with opportunities to meet with
more than 25 leading global solutions providers, including Nortel,
Samsung, Nokia Siemens, INTEL, Alvarion, Redline Communications,
picoChip, Navini Networks, BelAir Networks, Soma Networks, Firetide,
Beceem Communications, Sequans Communications, Comsys Mobile, Axxcelera
Broadband, ESE, Litepoint, Verso, Atmel, Times Microwave Systems and
others. More than 40 leading media, analyst and association partners
also supported the event and contributed to its success.
