Testing Part of One Open WiMAX Initiative to Accelerate Multi Vendor
Interoperability of WiMAX Core Network Interfaces and Promote Open
Standards across Mobile WiMAX Ecosystem
WiMAX World 2007
Chicago, IL -- WiChorus, the developer of the industry’s most scalable,
Intelligent Access Services Network (ASN) Gateway, and Redline
Communications Inc., a leading provider of standards-based WiMAX and
broadband wireless infrastructure products, today announced the
companies have conducted interoperability testing (IOT) between WiChorus’
Intelligent ASN gateway and Redline’s RedMAX 4C™ Mobile WiMAX Base
Station. Leveraging the WiMAX Forum’s recently ratified NWG 1.0.0
specification, WiChorus and Redline demonstrated interoperability with
the R6 network interface. The joint IOT testing demonstrates the
availability of a growing, open, and flexible ecosystem of best-of-breed
products for fixed and mobile WiMAX operators. |

“As the first company to achieve WiMAX Forum Certification for a
complete end-to-end system, Redline supports interoperability activities
that provide our carrier customers more flexibility, and the ability to
select from a variety of industry leading products when building out
their networks,” said Kevin Suitor, Vice President, Marketing and
Business Development, Redline Communications Inc. “WiChorus shares
Redline’s commitment to accelerate multi-vendor interoperability and
help service providers more quickly build out their WiMAX networks and
deliver profitable, successful broadband wireless services.”
“To date, much of the industry’s interoperability efforts have been
focused on the air interfaces but we are extending that interoperability
to WiMAX infrastructure equipment to enable carriers to deploy optimal
WiMAX networks, using best of breed equipment options,” said Rehan Jalil,
president and CEO of WiChorus. “Working with partners like Redline to
expand an open, mobile ecosystem gives operators the tools they need to
capitalize on the demand for broadband wireless services and deliver on
the promise of disruptive and open technologies like WiMAX.”
The One Open WiMAX initiative is accelerating the availability of WiMAX
Forum compliant infrastructure equipment and ensuring service providers
have the option to combine best-of-breed equipment to build their
networks. The goal of this vendor-neutral initiative is to ensure fully
open WiMAX standards, including the adoption of a single open R6
interface and demonstrate multi-vendor interoperability across the
entire mobile ecosystem, To achieve this, WiChorus has invested
significant R&D resources in providing test and simulation tools, an
advanced test lab facility, and software components to assist vendors in
delivering fully interoperable, open WiMAX solutions.
The RedMAX 4C is the latest addition to Redline’s family of WiMAX
products. Operating in the 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz spectrum bands, RedMAX 4C
is designed to conform to the requirements for 802.16e Certification
Wave 2, which is the WiMAX Forum’s official certification program for
Mobile WiMAX. Supporting a high concentration of subscribers, it enables
operators to realize a rapid return on their WiMAX investment, with a
low total cost of ownership. The RedMAX 4C includes a modular,
standardized micro Telecommunications Computing Architecture chassis
base station that is small, lightweight and easy to deploy. RedMAX 4C
will also include a suite of indoor and outdoor fixed and portable
end-user devices such as laptops, mobile handsets and PDAs. The RedMAX
4C is also being tested with the WiChorus ASN gateway as part of the
Redline Ecosystem Verification (‘REV’) program.
