First In-Building WiMAX Solution of Its Kind Will Spur Early Adoption by Reducing Deployment Costs
WiMAX World 2007

Chicago, IL -- MobileAccess, the foremost enterprise wireless innovator, today announced that its award-winning, multi-service in-building wireless solution is now WiMAX-ready with a MIMO product introduction. The innovative solution aims to change the economics of WiMAX and spur early adoption by providing the highest business-quality indoor WiMAX performance and reducing deployment costs by up to 50 percent. The first in-building WiMAX solution of its kind, the MobileAccess WiMAX module seamlessly integrates with the company’s Universal Wireless Network to provide a plug-and-play solution that delivers WiMAX services over existing MobileAccess deployments. At the same time, it is well suited for the thousands of deployments planned by Mobile WiMAX operators around the world.

Mobile WiMAX will enable an array of new applications that will transform business. As users prepare for its availability, MobileAccess will meet their expectations of ubiquitous high-quality service by maintaining consistently strong coverage throughout public venues and other large buildings such as airports, casinos, hospitals, hotels, office buildings, shopping malls and sports stadiums. The newly enhanced Universal Wireless Network solution overcomes the physical limitations of conventional building infrastructures and provides highly-scalable, high-speed access to a variety of state-of-the-art applications enabled by Mobile WiMAX, including localized personal information alerts, streaming audio/videoconferencing, content on demand and advanced mobile commerce.

“The focus on WiMAX up to now has been on fixed solutions that provide only last mile connectivity to the home,” said Cathy Zatloukal, CEO of MobileAccess. “However, carriers have made great strides toward rolling out Mobile WiMAX. Our new solution will be instrumental in bringing the services inside buildings because it eliminates the need for customers to install a cabled infrastructure dedicated to supporting WiMAX. With our Universal Wireless Network, they can tap the potential of 4G speeds and services when and where they will need it.”

The new solution enables existing MobileAccess customers to seamlessly add the Mobile WiMAX module into their telecom closets and turn on new wireless services over their existing Universal Wireless Network. New customers of MobileAccess’ flexible fiber/coax-based in-building wireless solution can just as easily add Mobile WiMAX capabilities, in addition to other wireless services such as cellular voice, public safety radio, wireless LAN and wireless medical telemetry, over the same shared infrastructure.

“MobileAccess’ WiMAX solution enables current customers such as Akridge to have an instant migration path to next-generation wireless services, such as building automation, without the need for an infrastructure overhaul or new cabling,” said Tommy Russo, director of information technology for Akridge Real Estate Services. “This capability will allow MobileAccess customers in the multi-tenant building and retail markets to continue to reap the financial and operational benefits of a well-coordinated infrastructure approach that supports the growing spectrum of wireless services.”

“Mobile WiMAX will offer myriad benefits to the education market,” said Hassan Marvi, director of technology operations at American University. “Our MobileAccess Universal Wireless Network will enable us to easily offer Mobile WiMAX services to students, faculty and staff when the need arises.”
