Winning the bandwidth rally - Nokia Siemens Networks demonstrates its
unique combination of efficient fixed and mobile broadband technology
Berlin, Germany & Espoo, Finland -- Compared to today’s traffic levels,
the amount of traffic moving across fixed and mobile networks by 2015
will have increased roughly 100-fold, with broadband-based services
feeding most of this growth. To cope with this, network vendors and
operators must simplify current network architecture complexity. Nokia
Siemens Networks focuses on bringing solutions and technology to the
market that help introduce scalabilityto the platforms to allow for
rapid, efficient growth. |

The key drivers for
traffic growth are bandwidth-hungry applications such as
person-to-person file sharing, video, high-definition TV (HDTV), new
end-user devices encouraging data use, flat-fee subscriptions, and
wireless broadband build-out. This is a great opportunity for the entire
communications industry – but at the same time a tremendous scaling
challenge. Nokia Siemens Networks will meet this challenge with its rich
portfolio of highly efficient and flexible fixed broadband and mobile
WiMAX solutions.
Starting October 9, 2007, Nokia Siemens Networks will be demonstrating
these solutions at the Broadband World Forum Europe 2007 in Berlin
(booth 6002). Along with its leading broadband technology and related
management and service offerings, the company is presenting a complete
Voice over IP (VoIP) solution as well as video and lifestyle
applications such as IPTV and Mobile TV, which help operators optimize
their bandwidth investment and migrate to an all IP/Ethernet network.
A balanced blend of complementary fixed access solutions
To enable service providers to increase their margins and market share
through optimized deployment of fixed broadband connectivity for the
next era of bandwidth demand, Nokia Siemens Networks offers Multi
Service Access Nodes (MSAN) for outdoor or in-house installations. The
hybrid product demonstrated in Berlin is able to transport optical fiber
and electronic copper signals with a single chassis. MSAN offers ADSL2+,
VDSL2, SHDSL, GPON , Ethernet, TDM and POTS/VoIP over the H.248 protocol
and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), and CATV connections. The DSL
technology being presented enables operators to make the most of their
existing copper net and to provide triple play services.
Nokia Siemens Networks is also demonstrating fiber access solutions:
Fiber-to-the-building / Fiber-to-the-home (FttB/FttH) over a Gigabit
Passive Optical Network (GPON) supports several bit rate options (up to
1 gigabit per second and beyond). Fiber access solutions are optimized
not only for the fastest downstream data transport, but also for very
high upstream flow, and they are customized for customers’ use cases.
With a special focus on broadband access, Nokia Siemens Networks is
demonstrating how its Operations Support Systems (OSS) software
solutions give operators increased efficiency in network operations,
manage convergent and multi-vendor telecommunications networks and
services, and improve business performance.
Integration of fixed network and IP services
Nokia Siemens Networks focuses on the delivery of a thoroughly tested
solution for the successful, efficient and fast deployment of fixed and
IP networks with verified functionality to reduce customers’ project
risks. With more than 350 service delivery framework (SDF) customization
and integration projects delivered to date, Nokia Siemens Networks’
expertise in building a multi-vendor SDF ecosystem allows operators to
get to market faster and more cost-efficiently with new services, while
also simplifying deployment and support and ensuring long-term
flexibility.
The customized service delivery platform (SDP) provides a complete
environment for the rapid development, deployment, management andbilling
of services and applications.
Mobile WiMAX extends broadband experience with mobility
In Berlin, Nokia Siemens Networks is demonstrating its mobile WiMAX
solution, which is very well suited for extending broadband service with
mobility and to areas where fixed broadband cannot be provided in a
cost-efficient way. This solution is capable of delivering a unified
stream of voice, data and video over wide distances and bandwidth. For
operators mobile WiMAX minimizes network deployment and operational
costs – enabling easier implementation and more efficient rollout -
while at the same time offering new ways to achieve customer
satisfaction and profitability. For consumers the mobile WiMAX solution
enables reliable connectivity to broadband services on the go, extending
broadband access and adding mobility to their user experience. Nokia
Siemens Networks' mobile WiMAX is a true end-to-end solution which
supports both wireless and mobile broadband applications to ensure the
utmost personal mobile broadband experience for consumers.
Making bandwidth investment fly with Voice over IP, IPTV, and Mobile
TV
On top of its highly efficient broadband technology, Nokia Siemens
Networks offers a number of revenue-generating applications such asa
complete VoIP solution as well as IPTV and Mobile TV.
With Nokia Siemens Networks’ leading VoIP solution service providers can
offer bundles ranging from basic to premium VoIP up to hosted business
functions for small office/home office enterprises (SoHos), small and
medium enterprises (SMEs) and large enterprises. The company’s VoIP
solution ensures web-based feature control as well as PBX integration,
hot billing, presence information or the opportunity to integrate all
kinds of user interfaces (POTS, ISDN, SIP phones, GSM, etc.) into one
homogenous telephone group.
Nokia Siemens Networks is also demonstrating the latest version of its
pre-integrated end-to-end IPTV solution as well as attractive new
concepts for the interactive arena, such as voting and betting, as well
as access to the Internet via the TV remote control and easy content
access and sharing on household TV sets.
In addition, visitors will see the latest version of the company’s
Mobile TV broadcasting solution, which now offers transmission via DVB-H
of even more TV channels combined with enhanced video quality, while at
the same time reducing operational costs.
