North-Link will provide rural Vermont communities business
opportunities and growth, enhanced security and emergency services
Omaha, NE -- Adesta, LLC, a systems integrator and project management
company for communication networks and security systems, today announced
they have completed the first segment and received a notice from
Northern Enterprises, Inc. to proceed on the second segment of what will
be a 400-mile open access fiber optic network in Northern Vermont where
there is currently limited, affordable broadband communication services.
The network, North-Link, will provide this rural region a backbone for
high-speed Internet access allowing for economic growth, development,
and long-term stability. This segment provides a fiber backbone network
for Franklin, Grand Isle, Orleans, Essex, Caledonia and Orleans
counties, which are the Economic Development Council of Northern Vermont
(EDCNV) District, as well as the counties of Chittenden and Washington. |

North-Link will support open access for
leasing to Internet Services Providers (ISPs) and Wireless Internet
Service Providers (WISP). Users of the backbone can lease low-cost
access while building their market and customer base. Users can be
existing and future competitive local exchange carriers or Internet
Service Providers (ISPs); businesses desiring their own internal
communications networks; governmental agencies (federal, state and
local); and even existing incumbent carriers and cable television
companies who desire expanded or improved coverage of their networks via
a fiber optic backbone. Customers will benefit from competition as
competitive carriers and ISPs enter the market without the prohibitive
capital expense of building the infrastructure.
North-Link will help stimulate business expansion and growth in Northern
Vermont. Access to telecommunications services, including high-speed
Internet, will attract new businesses to the region and create more job
opportunities. It will also augment security for local law enforcement,
rescue and emergency services and Homeland Security by providing
state-of-the-art fiber and redundancy. Current infrastructure is aged
and out-dated and does not provide redundancy, which causes frequent
interruptions and outages.
In addition, North-Link will provide a global competitive economy for
health care, education, government, non-profit organizations and
businesses. North-Link will utilize the newest technology and the
highest grade of fiber optic cabling. “It has been gratifying for us to
see the response of the communities as we have constructed the new fiber
optic network in their towns,” said Connie Stanley-Little, Executive
Director of Northern Enterprises. “They understand the new economic
highway is fiber optics and we must build it to be competitive in the
global marketplace. Adesta has been a significant asset to the success
and completion of this initial segment. We will continue to utilize
their expertise and experience as we complete North-Link in Vermont.”
“Northern Enterprises and the EDCNV are examples of groups of people
committed to making a difference in Rural America by providing broadband
connectivity,” said Bob Sommerfeld, President of Adesta. “We are proud
to be a part of this effort, and we are eager to move ahead with segment
two.”
