Agilent Technologies' Updated Firmware for DC Power Analyzer Includes More than 25 Customer-Recommended Enhancements

Other Topics: WiMAX Network Spain, Quad Play Service

Agilent Technologies
February 27, 2008

Santa Clara, CA -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced the latest release of its firmware for the Agilent N6705A DC Power Analyzer, which incorporates more than 25 customer-recommended enhancements. This version of firmware is shipping with all new orders and is a free upgrade for all existing customers.

"This new firmware release is a great example of how Agilent listens to its customers and incorporates changes that will make products more effective and easier to use," said Gary Whitman, vice president and general manager of Agilent's System Products Division. "We are committed to continually enhancing our DC power analyzer, ensuring it provides unrivaled productivity to the R&D engineers who use it."

New features and benefits of the updated firmware include:
  • A new grouping (paralleling) feature that allows users to control
and monitor two to four mainframe outputs as if they were one output, eliminating the hassle of coordinating the programming and measurement of multiple outputs. Users can more easily parallel outputs for up to 80 A of output current, which is essential for applications such as wireless base station power amplifier testing where current demand is high.
  • The addition of power traces (power curves) to the scope and data
logger, which provide the ability to directly view the power consumption of a device under test (DUT) without making any calculations. This is important to laptop manufacturers who need to test the power consumption of the LCD backlight under varying conditions.
  • The ability to use markers to zoom in on a specific piece of the
overall data set to get tailored measurements, such as minimum, average, maximum and peak-to-peak current, that pertain to only that piece of the waveform.
  • An auto-scale button for the scope and data logger, allowing users
to easily see the waveform(s) being measured with the touch of one key.
  • A simplified firmware-update process that enables users to update
their firmware directly from the front panel of the instrument. A PC is no longer required.
For a free upgrade, as well as a complete list of the more than 25 enhancements in this version, please visit www.agilent.com/find/N6705firmware.

The Agilent N6705A DC Power Analyzer
The Agilent N6705A DC Power Analyzer provides unrivaled productivity gains when sourcing and measuring DC voltage and current into a DUT. This tool, which R&D engineers can use to gain insights into the DUT's power consumption in minutes -- without writing a single line of code -- represents an entirely new instrument category for R&D engineers.

This instrument combines up to four advanced DC power supplies: DMM, oscilloscope, arbitrary waveform generator and data logger. It also provides an easy-to-use interface, with all sourcing and measuring functions available from the front panel.

U.S. Pricing and Availability
The Agilent N6705A DC Power Analyzer pricing starts at $6,500 and is ready to accept from one to four DC power modules, totaling up to 600W. DC power modules range from $450 to $2,250 per module. For customers in the defense industry who are concerned about USB security, the N6705A has an option to remove the USB interface.
