LTE Base Station Simulator

Anritsu Launches LTE Base Station Simulator

Other Topics: WiMAX USB Modem

Anritsu Company
January 21, 2009

Anritsu Company introduces the MD8430A Signalling Tester, the industry's first LTE base station simulator. Providing flexible and responsive support for the latest 3GPP LTE standard, the MD8430A is a highly accurate cost-effective solution for manufacturers of LTE chipsets and mobile devices to evaluate their products and improve time to market. Developed in conjunction with leading chipset manufacturers, the MD8430A augments Anritsu's broad 3GPP test suite, providing developers of wireless devices and systems with a single-source test solution company.

The MD8430A is designed with 4 RF units that enable 2x2 MIMO system handover tests in a simulated network environment. The base station simulator can conduct end-to-end testing at downlink speeds up to 100 Mbps and uplink speeds up to 50 Mbps. All critical 3GPP air-interface LTE protocol tests, including baseband coding/decoding processing tests; protocol sequence tests, such as position registration, origination, termination, handover, terminal and network disconnect tests; and application tests, are supported. Powerful L1/L2 cache analysis functions are provided as well.

Strong baseband evaluation support is ensured due to the design of the MD8430A. It features a built-in digital baseband interface that supports stable LTE chipset performance and function evaluation tests irrespective of the performance of the RF section. Digital baseband signals generated from a slow clock obtained by changing the clock frequency produces highly reliable coding and decoding tests. The MD8430A supports the severe mobile test environment required by LTE mobile developers to evaluate performance, as well as the environment required for high-reproducibility coding/decoding tests.

Test System Solution
The MD8430A can be easily integrated with Anritsu's MD8480C W-CDMA Signalling Tester to create a measurement solution that can reduce overall development costs. The MD8480C supports simulation of both W-CDMA/HSPA (up to Release 7) and GSM/GPRS/EGPRS base stations, allowing LTE-UTRAN/GERAN Inter-RAT handover tests to be made.

Further simplifying measurement and analysis is that the MD8430A can be used with Anritsu's Protocol Test System (PTS) and Rapid Test Designer (RTD). PTS is a 3GPP-compliant R&D and test tool environment for creating and executing call connection scenarios in Testing and Test Control Notation version 3 (TTCN-3). RTD offers an intuitive GUI for managing libraries, and running tests ranging from terminal function tests to operator terminal acceptance tests.
