Telabria - 10Mpbs symmetrical WiMAX

Telabria launches 10Mbps symmetrical WiMax

Telabria
September 1, 2005

All too often those looking for broadband-esque service stop or become disheartened after finding out they can either only get 512Kbps, or find out they cannot get ADSL at all. Overlooked in the past is an emerging technology called WiMax, and today, Telabria, a Kent based company has come out of trial, and announced the launch of its SkyLink service, offering asymmetrical and symmetrical services with speeds of up to 10Mbps for the Kent area.

Telabria’s asymmetrical service, ideally suited to the home user, is available at either 1.5Mbps or 3Mbps downstream speeds for £24.99 or £34.99 respectively (inclusive of VAT). Both services come with 512Kbps, which is typically twice that what is currently available on the BT network (although BT are trialing 8Mbps down, 832Kbps up).

Those looking for something a little faster need look at the ISPs Business range, offering symmetrical 1.5Mbps & 3Mbps (20:1 contention) £49.99, and £79.99 (plus VAT and setup costs). Amazingly, SkyLinks Business 3Mbps symmetrical service, is not only 50% faster than the fastest available through BTs SDSL service, but at just 75% of the cost too.

At the top end of the scale comes SkyLinks symmetrical 10Mbps option which costs £369 per month (plus VAT and setup costs). The latter, whilst not exactly pocket money seems to offer allot of speed, far far beyond that currently available from any other SDSL. Additionally, the service is contended at a nice low 10:1 ratio, plus remember, this is symmetrical - so thats 10Mbps upstream as well as down.

For those unlucky enough to be unable to get ADSL in the Kent area (Telabria tell us that just 16% of exchanges are enabled in the area) then SkyLink certainly is a very real, and for the consumer at least, very affordable option, which should not be overlooked because its WiMax - but considered because it is!
