WiMAX Licensed Backhaul

Xanadoo Deploys Licensed Back Haul to support Portable/Wireless Broadband Network from ALTIUS Communications

March 27, 2006
ALTIUS Communications

Multiple pre-WiMAX deployments planned throughout the country

LUBBOCK, TX AND PHOENIX, MD -- ALTIUS Communications is pleased to announce that Xanadoo, LLC has completed phase one of its licensed back haul network using equipment provided by ALTIUS.

Xanadoo Wireless High-Speed Internet delivers reliable broadband connectivity to homes and small businesses with unprecedented simplicity, flexibility and affordability. Xanadoo currently provides wireless broadband services in Lubbock, Wichita Falls and Abilene, Texas.

“Providing a first class and dependable back haul network for our pre-WiMAX equipment was always paramount in our overall strategy” said Mark Pagon, Chairman and CEO of Xanadoo. “Xanadoo is about delivering a new type of broadband service that offers a richer feature set and is more affordable than DSL or cable modem service. For example, we provide portable connectivity throughout our regional service areas with the ease of a wireless desktop modem or laptop card. We realized early on that to reach our customer service goals we needed to start with a reliable connection to all of our WiMAX POP sites.”

Jim Connor, President and CEO of ALTIUS Communications said “Xanadoo wanted a robust licensed back haul network and we were eager to help them achieve this goal. After interviewing several vendors, we chose Ceragon Networks and Dragonwave, Inc to provide 18 GHZ microwave radios for over 20 locations across Texas.”

“Xanadoo is all about reliability, flexibility and savings” adds Mark Pagon. “We essentially looked at all the elements of how to bring the most dependable service to our customers. We think that combining fiber optic quality back haul with the most exciting pre-WiMAX service offering in the industry will be a big advantage to our customers.”

“We looked at many different factors before deciding to partner with Ceragon and Dragonwave,” said Connor. “We needed to build a network to support Xanadoo that was capable of providing QOS, high bandwidth and allow us to work in a protected frequency band just like Xanadoo’s WiMAX service. We also required the equipment we chose to be able to grow with Xanadoo and allow future bandwidth upgrades via software downloads. Ceragon and Dragonwave both met the challenge.”
