In partnership with
Nextlink, XO will use fixed wireless technology to deliver
business-grade broadband services over high-speed wireless links at
speeds from 3 Mbps to 622 Mbps. Nextlink’s fixed wireless network will
serve as an extension of XO’s national IP network, allowing XO to serve
virtually any business location within seven miles of a wireless hub and
reduce the need to lease local access facilities from incumbent
telephone companies.
By utilizing fixed
wireless services and technology, XO will be able to:
- Deliver high-speed
business-class broadband services, including Dedicated Internet
Access ranging from DS3 to OC-12 and Ethernet access from 3Mbps to
100 Mbps, directly to customers;
- Expand the reach
of the XO network and service area;
- Reduce local
network access costs associated with serving customers by bypassing
incumbent telephone companies; and
- Limit the impact
of the changing regulatory environment.
“Fixed wireless
technology has finally arrived to help solve critical issues facing our
industry and to offer customers a cost-effective, scalable and reliable
alternative access method to receive broadband services,” said Carl
Grivner, CEO of XO Holdings. “For XO, broadband wireless will be an
extension of our national, facilities-based IP network, allowing us to
serve virtually any customer within visible range of each wireless hub
and help reduce the local access costs we typically pay to local
incumbents.”
XO will offer these
services directly to businesses. To serve customers, XO will connect
its IP network to Nextlink wireless hubs which will connect to remote
terminals located at customer locations. XO will begin offering the
services during the second quarter of this year in Dallas, Los Angeles,
Miami, San Diego, Tampa and Washington, DC with service availability in
additional markets as Nextlink builds out its wireless network
infrastructure.
