WiMAX Core Networks

Designing WiMAX Core Networks TM

This course is designed as 50% tutorial and 50% hands-on exercise. A spreadsheet tool is provided to enhance the hands-on learning experience. Bring your laptop, or arrange in advance for DoceoTech to provide one for you.

Course Description:
This course is targeted at students who are planning a WiMAX deployment, and who need the skills to design a network, balancing the requirements of service quality (including throughput and performance) with minimum capital and operations cost. It is one of three courses in a series which prepare students to take the WiMAX Network Designer™ certification exam.

In this course, students learn a formal approach to the design of the Internet Protocol Core of a WiMAX network. The Core is the portion of the network between the WiMAX Base Station and the interface to the larger Data and Voice network infrastructures. In this portion of the network, the WiMAX subscriber’s traffic is transported by routers and switches through copper and fiber transmission facilities. Proper design of the IP network and proper engineering of these facilities ensures high service quality for the end-user, and ease of operation for the WiMAX provider.

Course length:
1 day

Course Outline:

v       Module 1: IP Network Design
At the end of this module you should be able to:

  Ø
Explain and follow each step of the DoceoTech core-
            network design checklist

Ø       Design the IP network settings for all routing
            components of the network

Ø       Architect the IP routers and servers in an optimal
            design

Ø       Plan for IP network installation and configuration
v

Module 2: Capacity and Bandwidth Planning
At the end of this module you should be able to:
Ø       Design the bandwidth management allocation for all
            sites

Ø       Allocate bandwidth for Quality of Service requirements
Ø       Incorporate Voice over WiMAX traffic into a
            performance plan

Ø       Engineer backhaul options for each base station

Ø       Itemize an equipment list for each base station,
            based on expected subscriber traffic

v       Module 3: Deployment Planning
At the end of this module you should be able to:
  Ø
Explain and follow each step of the DoceoTech
                deployment checklist
Ø       Plan for network installation and testing
Ø       Describe the steps for cell-site construction
Ø       Describe the steps for subscriber station deployment

v
Module 4: Core Network Design Case Study

v
       Course Learning Objectives:

At the end of this course, you should be able to:

  Ø
Architect the core of a WiMAX Network
Ø       Explain and follow the steps of the DoceoTech core-network design
            checklist

Ø       Engineer the backhaul links from each WiMAX base station, based
on estimated subscriber load and quality of service parameters

Ø       Assure appropriate bandwidth allocation for various traffic classes
            of service

Ø       Design the IP addressing and routing plan for a WiMAX network
Ø       Evaluate routers and servers for WiMAX core networks
Ø       Prepare equipment lists for your WiMAX network
