Wireless OFDM Subscriber Station

Vecima Networks Launches New OFDM Subscriber Station for Advanced NLOS 900 MHz Broadband Wireless System

Other Topics: WiMAX Test Receiver Notebook, 4G Wireless Investment

Marketwire
March 24, 2010

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA - Vecima Networks Inc. ("Vecima") (TSX:VCM), a leading supplier of broadband wireless and wired solutions, announced today the market introduction of the newest member of the WaveRider LMS8000 OFDM 900 MHz product family, the EUM8001 rugged connectorized subscriber radio.

The new EUM8001 outdoor radio features an N-connector for attachment to external antenna, small foot-print, plug and play connectivity, adaptive modulation, enhanced web-based GUI, dynamic polling MAC, Power over Ethernet and a host of other advanced features. The WaveRider EUM8001 also delivers a 13.5 Mbps over-the-air data rate with up to 8 Mbps usable data throughput for a single subscriber, all in a 5.5 MHz channel size.

"The introduction of the Federal Broadband Stimulus Program has driven increased demand for Vecima WaveRider and VistaMAX products. Internet service providers are seeking an OFDM-based CPE (customer premise equipment) with N-connector so that any existing non OFDM systems can be replaced with WaveRider base stations and CPE, while the existing wiring and panel or yagi antennas at the customer installations can be retained. Since many competitor systems operating at 900 MHz can only provide aggregate throughput at the base station of around 2-3 Mbps, providers are now in a position to replace older generation technologies with the WaveRider LMS8000 OFDM system. This will provide increased broadband throughput and system capacity to meet growing subscriber needs and ROI criteria," said Jim Shedden, Director of WaveRider Sales at Vecima Networks.

The LMS8000 family now includes three CCU base station models and five CPE models, offering a robust product mix including diversity antennas for OFDM indoor and outdoor CPEs as well as a nomadic DC powered unit.

The WaveRider EUM8001 is now shipping internationally.

About Vecima Networks
Vecima Networks Inc. (TSX:VCM) designs, manufactures and sells products that enable broadband access to cable, wireless and telephony networks. Vecima's hardware products incorporate original embedded software to meet the complex requirements of next-generation, high-speed digital networks. Service providers use Vecima's solutions to deliver services to a converging worldwide broadband market, including what are commonly known as "triple play" (voice, video and data) and "quadruple play" (voice, video, data and wireless) services. Vecima's solutions allow service providers to rapidly and cost-effectively bridge the final network segment that connects the system directly to end users, commonly referred to as "the last mile", by overcoming the bottleneck resulting from insufficient carrying capacity in legacy, last mile infrastructures. Vecima's products are directed at two principal markets: Converged Wired Solutions and Broadband Wireless. The Company has also developed and continues to focus on developing products to address emerging markets such as Voice over Internet Protocol, fibre to the home and IP video. www.vecima.com
