WPAN Layer 1 Conformance

WiPAN LVCT - WPAN 802.15.4 PHY layer Compliance Testing/Overview

The IEEE 802.15.4 standard, ratified in May 2003, for wireless personal area networks (WPANs) specifies the physical (PHY) and medium access control (MAC) layers, while the ZigBee Alliance defines the network, security and application profile layers for an IEEE 802.15.4-based system.

WiPAN LVCT - Compliance testing tool - a LabView-based design tool enables WPAN vendors and manufacturers to simplify compliance testing and pre-certify products prior to submission for ZigBee interoperability testing. It assures system integrators to buy products from different manufacturers with confidence that the products will work together. It’s the right tool for Designers, Testers, R&D Engineers engaged in Wireless PAN (2.4 GHz) Compliance test activity.

WiPAN LVCT FEATURES

Supported data rate 250 kbps
Supported Chip rate – 2000 kchip/s
Symbol rate – 62.5 ksymbol/s
16ary quasy-orthogonal modulation technique - QPSK modulation Scheme
Extremely User Friendly Interface and all the tests can be performed with Ease
Offers Maximum flexibility in selecting the test (any one of the 14 tests) and the channel for
transmission (any one of the 16 channels)
No of octets of various data patterns such as PN seq, text, user defined pattern and pre designed
patterns for transmission purpose can be easily selected from the drop down menu.
It provides high accuracy to measure IEEE 802.15.4 (2.4 GHz) signals.
Seamless integration with NI PXI 5660 and NI PXI 5670 vector signal analyzer and vector signal
   generator
Tests IEEE 802.15.4(2.4 GHz) WPAN of any vendor.
Self Explanatory Results – with less effort.
Requires minimum time to run the tests.
Minimum user interaction with hardware and requires minimum knowledge prior to use.
WiPAN LVCT enables faster validation cycles with pass-fail testing over a comprehensive range of tests
   for Transmitters and Receivers

OVERVIEW

WiPAN LVCT tool is a single button, highly accurate software which tests any WPAN(DUT) to meet the latest emerging wireless standard IEEE 802.15.4 in the 2.4 GHz PHY unlicensed Industrial Scientific Medical (ISM) band. It performs 10 tests (refer table) as per the IEEE 802.15.4(2.4 GHz) Specification on any one of the 16 frequency channels numbered 11 to 26 which are 5 MHz apart from each other. Compliance testing is conducted to assure compliance to specification of the device under test in a Wireless Network Environment. The WiPAN LVCT suite comprises of WiPAN LVSA - signal analyzer and WiPAN LVSG - signal generation software.

WiPAN LVSG is Baseband PHY software in labview that provides a configurable MAC, basic transmitter blocks such as bit to chip formation, Offset Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (O-QPSK) modulation (16-ary) and half sine pulse shaping as per the requirements of the Standard. Chip modulation is OQPK at 2.0 Mchips/s.

WiPAN LVSA is Baseband PHY receiver software in labview for capturing signals in the 2.4 GHz band. It’s a WPAN receiver capable of performing symbol synchronization, frequency synchronization and neutralizing front end non idealities. The receiver also performs EVM calculation as per standard specifications.
